Day 3: The Importance of a Call

Here we are on Day 3. I have people asking me what it's all about which is so exciting that I get to share this amazing journey with others. So, tonight I had planned to surprise my boyfriend by getting ice cream and taking it to his house and surprising him. He didn't see I had called him until much later and so I wasn't able to surprise him. However, while I was waiting to hear back from him I called my mom to say hi. We chatted for a few minutes about our days and the weather. I asked how my…See More

Day 7: Because I Said So...

Well, yesterday was Day 7 of the Generous You journey for me. I'm finding it to be a truly wonderful journey and I'm enjoying it immensly!

Last night I went for wings with some friends from church. Another guy and I were the first to arrive and the waitress was grabbing our drinks. The restaurant had changed their specials and no longer offered schooners at a better price on Monday nights. Therefore the beer that my friend wanted was no longer on special so I piped in and said "Put it…

Day 6: We All Scream for Ice Cream

Yesterday, Sunday, May 6, I was on my way to hang out with my boyfriend and thought I would surprise him with ice cream. The last time I tried to surprise him with ice cream it didn't work out but this time I knew he would be home (as we'd made plans to meet there haha).

As I was pulling out of the DQ parking lot I realized I had missed a call from him. I phoned him back and he told me he wanted to get us ice cream on his way home but because he couldn't get a hold of me he went home…

Day 5: Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo - from Saturday haha. This post is about a generous team effort!

On Saturday, many of my friends from church and I threw a Cinco de Mayo party and invited tons of our other friends to come hang out and eat lots of Mexican themed food and hit some Pinatas. So many of the people on the planning team put in countless hours in order to prepare for the event. The party was a huge success and there was so much food leftover. I am so proud of the team work that went into…

Day 4: Caring with Coffee

Hello again!

I got a little behind in posting my activities this weekend so I will go back to Friday which was Day 4 of my journey of generosity.

A group of friends from church and I were planning a gathering for Saturday, May 5, and my friends were hard at work preparing food and decorations for the event. On my way to assist them I stopped by Starbucks and got two Chai Tea Lattes with soy for my friends. I knew for sure one of them had a dairy allergy and the other has other…

Day 2: The Joy of Giving

Giving is sooo good! I love being able to give to others. Just seeing the joy on another persons face is amazing!

Today I was going to get my hair done by a truly amazing friend of mine. She is someone who knows the true meaning of giving and selflessness so it was a true blessing to be able to do something nice for her. I stopped at Starbucks on my way to my hair appointment and got her a vanilla bean frappucino. Then I stopped at Safeway to buy her some flowers.

 I cannot…

Day 1: Beginning the Journey

Well, here it is, the first day of the Generous You 21-Day Giving Challenge. I am so excited to see the many different ways that God is going to work not only in my life but in the lives of those around me.

I've had my eyes peeled all day eagerly awaiting an opportunity to give. It came in an email from a clothing store that I like. They were connected with a charity in the USA that was sending cards to children in hospitals all over the US. With each card sent they were donating a…

No Hay? No Problem!

We have horses. That's enough to cause most people to question our sanity, especially given the high price of hay and cheap price of horses, all 14 of them! Add to that the fact that the 35 or so acres we've been cutting for hay was put into row crop this year so we have no hay for the coming year, right? Well, that's where it gets interesting.

Last Saturday we had a mare deliver a beautiful palomino filly. So, with my normal exuberance, I posted it on Facebook, which received many…

Inspiration

One of the inspirations for the 21-Day Giving Challenge is the story of Cami Walker, a writer and brave woman who was diagnosed with MS. Cami was challenged by one of her spiritual mentors to give one gift a day for 29 days during a particularly low point in her life. And the impact this challenge had on Cami’s life was remarkable. To read more about Cami’s journey go to http://www.29giftsbook.com and learn how she and others are impacting others with their giving.
